This looks like a great board
I just joined iVillage and posted on the Writing Life board. I plan to stick around the book club area for a long time.
Can someone please explain what the writing class is? Can anyone join and how do I get there? There's so much I want to learn.
I'm in the middle of my first novel and wonder if this class will help me.
Thanks for all the help.

I need some questions answered please.
Thanks to CLWritingmom!
Thank you for a wonderful chat tonight! Special thanks for mentioning the author whose book will be analyzed on your message board. Probably would have taken me a week to read every post to make sure I didn't miss it.
Think I might pop in on CLStar and CLStormy's chat tomorrow. Conversing in real time is a great way to get to know fellow board buddies.

ideas for plot structure
About a month ago we held a class on plotting and structure. For those who couldn't attend or if you haven't seen the transcripts, here is a recap: Fiction needs a structure, the same way our bodies need muscles and bone to hold our organs in place. Sometimes I meet writers who ask me why they can't write stream of consciousness and pass it off as fiction. The answer is simple. Fiction has an ancient and therefore satisfying structure that pulls the reader into a story, keeps him or her glued to it, then provides a satisfying conclusion.
REMINDER: On September 15th, join the one and only WritingMom in the Writing Class
She's going to (again) dazzle you with all she knows about romance writing. Seriously, she is a dedicated and knowledgable fiction writer who has lots of information from the basics of structure to the intricacies of characterization.I'm going to New York to visit iVillage and see a few skyscrapers--I'm sure Portland will seem quiet and quaint in comparison. See you all next week (September 22) when we've rescheduled the class on creativity. Jessica
Gone With the Wind
I keep threatening to write that book and now I might just get the chance. Hurricane Floyd is trying his best to aim at my bedroom.
I may need to evacuate and miss you all for a little while. Don't worry. I'll stay safe. I'll make sure my dog and my bookshelf-building hunny are safe too.
Even if the storm misses us, we are almost sure to flood. Can anyone give me a good flood title?

Hi Jessica, I just finished your book!
It is great! It seemed that you were talking right to me. I am trying many of your hints and they have really helped. It is great, now I just have get out there and write! I am working on a mystery right now and also working on some articles to sendout. Wish me luck! I try to make the class, but there are some time constraints so it is hit and miss. This board helps alot as well. Thank you for this venue. Sue(WOODY)
