OK HELP ME OUT HERE I'M NEW TO THIS

NO SPAM/SOLICITING HERE!**Against iVillage's Terms of Service!**To Have Deleted, please Email: dianetw@mail.ivillage.com

Hi, and Happy Labor Day weekend everyone! I'm sad to say that I had no choice but to remove a "huge, lengthy SPAM post" from our Book Club message boards. You know, one of those $6 -- so-called get rich quick schemes, i.e, "Make $$$$ with $6" post, and it was in every one of our boards! We strive to make our message boards "safe and pleasant" for everyone. What can you do to help? Please read on ...

Another New Board!

We've archived again! Thank you all for making Writing Class After Hours such a fun and informative message board.

I'm really glad that iVillage archives the boards and keeps them for us to visit again and again. Sure would hate to loose all that great information and all those wonderful quotes.

To TerryLea: Reading about Dictators

Dear TerryLea,

You asked for information about dictators to help you with your story. My husband, Tom, is a historian with a passion for political science. (Handy guy to help with research!) The most successful dictator of modern times was Joseph Stalin and I asked my husband to please give me a short book list I could post for you.

Great book title, no book

I'm just starting to write the book I've had in my head for years, and all I have right now is a great title. I'm wondering, is there some way to register a title, so that no one else can take it? I know that seems a bit silly, but the title is a very important part of the book. Thanks in advance for any advice anyone can give me!

Need Advice, This is New for Me.

Lost in thought ONLY!

HELP!!!! I said I would write the Great American Novel during my 30s and I'm 40!!!!! I have so many ideas that I'm drowning in them and don't know where to start. I know there is no perfect recipe for writing except to "just do it." I've had so many life experiences, I'm not sure how to turn them into stories. HELP!!! My latest idea is to put together a book of short stories called...Reflections from a Riding Lawn Mower. Do you think the writing class will help. Is there one during the day?

Some wise advice:

"Write. Valuable time and energy are often spent on talking about writing, studying writing, attending writer's meetings, at the expense of the actual writing. Discussion groups and/or classes can be enormously beneficial. They can provide support, instruction and direction to novices. But they can also be contrivances one uses, perhaps subconsciously, to postpone or avoid the hard, lonely labor of putting words on paper. A new writer should guard against becoming so busy being a "writer" that she or he doesn't have time to write." Sandra Brown
