The first healing gardens were likely "found gardens," natural places that spontaneously evoke a range of emotions ranging from deep contentment to exhilaration. These areas were recognized across many cultures and set apart as sacred space. On the Commonweal Landscape, which overlooks the Pacific Ocean, the healing power of nature is celebrated simply by protecting the existing landscape with its open views of the ocean and sky. The space offers a meditation hut to those in need of healing. The hut is constructed from natural materials and provides a sense of intimacy and security while offering visitors exquisite views of the coast. A recent addition to Commonweal is the organic garden that supplies fresh produce to guests who come for retreat.
