Frances Bean Cobain has definitely inherited at least one talent from her parents: She knows how to get people talking. The daughter of Courtney Love and the late Kurt Cobain, Frances has spent most of her young life dodging the media spotlight. But now a stunning new photo series shows the 19-year-old looking like an old-school Hollywood glamour queen.
In the new pictures, taken by fine art photographer Rocky Schenck, a red-haired Frances Bean looks sultry as she smokes a cigarette, then sophisticated as she poses in a flowing draped gown. Another set shows her posing in the shadow of tree branches, looking mysterious and aloof. These pictures come on the heels of Cobain's grittier photo shoot for another artist, Hedi Slimane, who made her look like a dark, tattooed rebel.
Different as these photo sets are, she's gorgeous in both of them -- and impossible to look away from. In fact, Cobain is already being dubbed the new muse of the fashion world. It's certainly a compliment -- but is that what Kurt and Courtney's daughter really wants for herself?
In her most recent interview, for Harper's Bazaar in 2008, Frances Bean said she hadn't decided what to do with her life; at the time, she was into photography, performing in stage musicals and buying designer shoes. But four years is a lifetime when you're a teenager, and Bean's ambitions may have changed. (Back then, she said her goal in life was "to be sublimely happy" and "live in a way that isn't too hectic.") Lately she's seemed more interested in art, and in 2010 had a successful gallery show of irreverent drawings (for which she used a pseudonym).
Seems like she's just experimenting with who she wants to be, which seems totally normal for a 19-year-old girl. And, after a lifetime in the shadow of her rock legend parents, she's finally coming into her own.
