Friend Destroyed Borrowed Items
When I lent my friend my ski equipment, the jacket came back ripped and one ski binding was broken. How should I approach this person? -- Yvonne

Simply say, "It looks like my gear took quite a beating on your ski trip. Unless you have a better idea, I'll take it to be repaired and send you the receipt so you can reimburse me."
Even though you might be seething inside, it's best to keep a lid on your anger and frustration. Sounding accusatory will only put your friend on the defensive. Remember that your goal here is to solve the problem, not create conflict!
