Fun-Filled Activities for Toddlers

Your toddler is growing more capable -- and curious -- everyday, so keep her entertained with one of these fun-filled, imaginative activities.

Go Splat!
From: A Happy Wanderer
Why We Love It: Your kids don't have to wait for the 4th of July for fireworks. Plus, these homemade, messy explosions of color are more fun -- and less scary for little kids!
What You'll Need: sidewalk chalk paint (see recipe below), old socks, something to fill the socks (rice, beans, fish gravel, etc.)
How to Do It: First, make the sidewalk chalk paint: Mix 2 T. cornstarch with 3 T. water in a bowl; you'll want it to be a little watery. Add 2 drops of food coloring. Repeat in separate bowls for as many colors as you want. Next, fill several old socks with a scoop or two of filling and tie off the socks. Head to the nearest sidewalk, let your tot dip the socks into the paint, and then lift them over his head and drop them onto the sidewalk. (You can also bring out a sturdy stepstool and help your child climb up before dropping the socks, for an even bigger "firework.") Splat!
