Well, that was fast. Word just came out that the ABC drama FlashForward is canceled, but already one of its brightest stars -- Gabrielle Union -- has landed another gig.
The 37-year-old actress will star in an Army Wives spin-off where the ladies will get in on the action. Get ready for a hearty dose of girl power: Lifetime plans to embed the yet-to-be-titled pilot for the new show into an episode of Wives, which wraps its fourth season in June. And Union is set to play Det. Gina Holt, partner to Pamela Moran (Brigid Brannagh), who returns to her to her gig as an Atlanta cop -- a move you’ll see planted in one of the final episodes of the season.
Union, who first hit the scene as a cheerleader with attitude to spare in 2000’s Bring It On, will get rough-and-tumble as an Atlanta cop on the new show, which is imagined as a female-oriented crime drama.
Recently, Union has been in the news more for her personal life than her acting career: She was sued by boyfriend Dwayne Wade's estranged wife, who claimed that the actress' relationship with the Miami Heat player was causing their two sons emotional distress.
