Gaining Control of Your Life Again -- and Finding Peace at Home

While talking to neighbors, friends and family has helped in some ways to cope with this unfathomable tragedy, trying to take the steps back towards a normal life has been extremely difficult for most Americans.

This week on the Get Organized message board, iVillager cjay0 decided to make a pact with herself to "live on her own terms," not on the terms of the terrorists. In this moving declaration, iVillager cjay0 encourages all to "see good so we can end this evil," and to make sure we do the smallest tasks at home -- including the dishes -- to make us feel like we're in control of our lives and our surroundings again.

Many on the Get Organized board responded to cjay0's declaration and felt that her need to move on, stay strong and maintain a daily routine was a sentiment they needed to hear. We hope you too find inspiration in her words.

iVillager cjay0's declaration:
I made a decision today, and I hope you'll all join me. Some of you are already aware that this tragedy has affected me deeply and negatively. Well, I was talking to some friends today about the people on the fourth plane --the people who knew they were going to die and decided to do it on their terms and not on the terms of the hijackers.

In doing so, those heroic few saved many other lives. (Deep breath.) I have decided that I'm going to do the same thing. I am going to live on MY terms because I cannot allow the terrorists to take my life away. It is time that I start living my life. Of course, I will always mourn for those who have died, but I REFUSE to allow the people who have caused this to take away anything else from me or my country.

Our best response now is to refuse to allow this incident to change who we are or what we do, even if it's a small thing like still doing our dishes every day. To allow the terrorists to affect us in such a way that our houses and lives revert to CHAOS means they win. After the World Trade Center and the Pentagon incidents, this may seem a little thing -- but is it really? If all of us here in America change who we are and what we do because of this incident, then haven't the terrorists behind all this won an even bigger victory?

Starting right now, I am back. My job will be done, dinner will be cooked and I will smile for ALL the good things, not only in my life, but also in what I see on the news. People everywhere are HEROES. People just like you and me. I am going to help my sons and all the children around me see the good so hopefully we can finally end this evil.

I hope this wasn't too preachy, but I needed to say this because everyday life is still important for all of us.
