While it may have once been considered a career-ending move, today gay celebrities are no longer afraid to come out and reveal their sexuality. Whether it’s making the announcement on a magazine cover, blog or TV show, these public figures are joining a growing list of celebs who are out and proud. Instead of backlash, many stars find that their fans are supportive of who they really are. Their courage has even given people outside of Hollywood the strength to be open about their sexuality as well. Here are the celebrities who have bravely come out to the world.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, Today Show anchor Robin Roberts came out as being gay by speaking about her myelodysplastic syndrome and her recovery from it since she's been treated. "Flashback 12/29/12....Hard to believe this was 1 year ago today..when I reached a critical milestone of 100 days post transplant...and KJ was finally allowed to come back home," Roberts wrote. She then continued, "At this moment I am at peace and filled with joy and gratitude. I am grateful to God, my doctors and nurses for my restored good health. I am grateful for my sister, Sally-Ann, for being my donor and giving me the gift of life. I am grateful for my entire family, my long time girlfriend, Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together." A spokesperson for ABC later confirmed the Roberts has indeed been in a 10-year relationship with her girlfriend, Amber Laign whom she met through mutal friends.
