While it may have once been considered a career-ending move, today gay celebrities are no longer afraid to come out and reveal their sexuality. Whether it’s making the announcement on a magazine cover, blog or TV show, these public figures are joining a growing list of celebs who are out and proud. Instead of backlash, many stars find that their fans are supportive of who they really are. Their courage has even given people outside of Hollywood the strength to be open about their sexuality as well. Here are the celebrities who have bravely come out to the world.
Bob Harper, the popular personal trainer on the NBC weight-loss competition The Biggest Loser, revealed he is gay on an episode of the reality show. He made the announcement to inspire a contestant to come out to his own father. "I haven't talked about my sexuality on this show ever, and now meeting [contestant] Bobby [Saleem], I really do believe this is the right time," Harper said during the Nov. 26 episode. "I want to show Bobby that he doesn't have to live in shame." Harper sat down with Saleem and shared his own story of coming out, saying, "I knew a very long time ago that I was gay, and the family that I grew up around was very much the same in that way -- you know, there was so much repression there. I think that when I came out, when I was 17 years old, it was one of those kind of things where I realized there were so many obstacles," the reality star explained. "But being gay doesn't mean being weak. Being gay doesn't mean that you are less than anybody else. It's just who you are."
