Although she's denying it, Oprah's BFF, Gayle King, is said to be jonesing for Star Jones Reynold's job
A source tells The New York Daily News: "Gayle really wants the job in a big way. It's her absolute dream situation. She thinks it's perfect, because there are others to share the spotlight with and she wouldn't have to deal as much with the 'Oprah's Best Friend' label that follows her everywhere. She just wants to be 'Gayle King, television personality.'"
So what's the holdup? She's – gasp – friends with Star.
"She can't publicly lobby for the job in any way," says the source. "Star would certainly get upset about her friend trying to get a job she's not technically done with yet."
I'm sort of excited by this new lineup – Babs, Gayle, Rosie O'Donnell, Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck -- if it happens. I think Elisabeth is probably the deadweight, but the show has never successfully cast their "young" voice. Debbie Matenopoulos was a train wreck; Lisa Ling was so-so. And Joy Behar is just loud and obnoxious, but I always like when she yells at Star.
I think the show really needs a change… and this could be a great new direction.
