It's no secret that George Clooney knows how to win over a lady's heart. But apparently he's also a master at how to earn a dog's love, as well.
The Golden Globe-nominated actor and director tells Esquire magazine that he first saw his dog Einstein, a rescued "part cocker spaniel or something," on the animal shelter's website and was immediately smitten. When he called the shelter to say he was interested, they replied that the match was up to the dog, not Clooney.
If the dog didn't take to Clooney, they explained, they'd have to find a different potential owner. Worried about the introduction, Clooney, 50, decided not to leave the "chemistry" to chance.
"I start to panic that Einstein is not going to like me," Clooney says of that crucial first meeting. "So I run into the kitchen, where I have these turkey meatballs, and I rub them all over my shoes ... Who knew Einstein was such a food whore on top of everything? He throws himself at my feet."
With the meaty meeting a success, Einstein had a new home and Clooney -- a known animal lover -- had a new pet.
"And forever, now, he just thinks of me as the guy with the meatball feet. He loves me. I can do no wrong. He follows me everywhere," he explains.
