Well, my loves, summer is here! Time to bear those gorgeous arms and legs, and show them to the world! If you are as freaked out as I am about this prospect, you may want to do what I do: embrace a little self-tanner! I know what you’re thinking, "I don't want to look orange or crazy." I agree, but there are many self-tanners out there that give you a nice, healthy glow, without looking overdone.
Self-tanning is really a two-day process. Start by exfoliating the whole body, especially rough knees and elbows. I love the Clarisonic PLUS for the Face and Body ($225 at QVC). It makes my skin feel baby smooth.
The next morning, choose your weapon of choice. I have two: when I want a nice, soft, glowy look, I go for Kate Somerville 360° Tanning Towelettes ($48 at KateSomerville.com). It's so easy to just glide the towelettes all over the body, and you get a nice, even look without streaking. Here's a tip: whatever you really want to focus on, whether it be your face or your legs, do that part first.
When I really want to go to town, for that Brazilian beach model look, I love the Bare Escentuals Faux Tan ($23.99 at Amazon). This one is tinted, so you immediately get a bronzed look, and as time progresses, you get warmer and warmer.
So go ahead and enjoy the glow without fear that you're going to look like an Oompa Loompa. Also, remember to keep your skin moisturized to make the tan last longer. If I take really good care of my skin after self-tanning, I can make it last almost a week!
