Count this among the perks of having a husband/father in the White House -- killer vacations. Michelle Obama brought nine-year-old Sasha along for a four-day excursion to Spain’s Costa del Sol, where they’re staying right along the Mediterranean at the posh Villa Padierna, ranked among the 30 best hotels in the world. Not bad for a fabulous mother-daughter excursion.
I think it's great that these ladies are getting out and about without Dad (a.k.a. the commander-in-chief). I'm a huge fan of mother-daughter trips. While my voyages are decidedly less luxe, I’ve already taken my six- and three-year-old girls to Niagara Falls, and I have plans for plenty more ladies-only excursions in the future.
For me, it’s the perfect opportunity to get out of the day-to-day grind and really bond with my daughters -- to explore new activities and new places together (especially important before that teenage angst sets in). Plus, I finally have travel partners to try some things that Dad isn’t so keen on (hello, spa trip!). And as far as I’m concerned, I’d rather invest in trips that bring memories and education than fancy toys and clothes -- they’re truly priceless.
