If there's a woman alive who didn't want to be Kate Bosworth in Blue Crush, we don't know her. But as much as we love Kate's natural, beachy glow, we also think she looks great dressed up. (If you're wondering about her eyes, they're two different colors: hazel and blue.) We asked Deborah Grayson, iVillage's own makeup pro, how to recreate this pretty, punkish and funky sapphire-rimmed look.
Step 1: Start with the eyes. Use a deep blue eye pencil to draw a line across the upper and lower lash lines. Blend the pencil with a sponge-tip applicator, then go back over the line to get a denser coating of color. In the next step you'll layer the eye shadow for a graduated "washed" look of color upon color.
Step 2: Use a violet-blue-toned powder eye shadow with a pointed brush. Apply the shadow to the area directly over and slightly above the blue pencil line you made in step 1. In essence you'll be layering over the line and slightly extending upward.
Step 3 Complete the eyes with two coats of blue-black mascara. Make sure to coat each lash, especially those at the outer ends.
Step 4 For your face, lightly apply a sheer cream foundation and blend carefully with your fingers or a sponge.
Step 5 Now you're ready for a light blush. This is a two-step process in that Kate's wearing a sheer, creamy pink on the apples of her cheeks and a slightly deeper pink-caramel powder on the perimeter of her cheekbones. Lightly apply the cream blush with your fingers, diffusing well so there are no hard edges. Next, using a contouring blush brush, apply the powder blush just to the perimeter of the cheekbones.
Step 6 A sheer, pearly pink translucent gloss completes the look.
