Not only is she strikingly lovely, but the two characters Naomi Watts played in David Lynch's Mulholland Dr. proved she is also an acting powerhouse. Since then the talented Australian scared us in the box-office hit The Ring and captivated us in King Kong. (We loved watching the beast surrender to her feminine spirit.) Here she is at her Hollywood best, all chisel cheeked and pink lipped. Makeup artist Deborah Grayson explains how to get this radiant look.
Step 1: Start with the eyebrows. Using a hard, angled brush in short, flicking motions moving from the bottom of the brows to the top, apply an ash blonde brow powder, filling in any sparse areas you might have.
Step 2: Next, line the lower rims of the eyes, just below the lower lash line, with a blue-gray eyeliner pencil.
Step 3: Using a rounded eye shadow brush and an iridescent teal blue eye shadow, create an arc shape just above the crease of the eyelids. Do this by making light swiping motions with your brush back and forth (like a miniature windshield wiper). You want a hazy, really diffused blend, so don't re-dip into the shadow, just blend and blend until you get a misty look.
Step 4: Follow with two to three coats of black volumizing mascara '- but just on the top lashes. Then clean off your mascara wand with a tissue and use just the remains to lightly define the lower lashes.
Step 5: Using a makeup remover tissue or a cotton swab dipped in makeup remover, clean off any of the brow powder or eye shadow that may have traveled down, especially under the hollows of the eyes.
Step 6: Use a makeup sponge with just a smattering of oil-free powder foundation and apply to the entire face in smooth outward strokes. This will even out your skin tone, giving a smooth, matte effect.
Step 7: Next, with a fan-shaped brush, apply loose, flesh-colored powder to the entire face. Make sure to cover the cheekbone area well, so the powder blush will lie smoothly.
Step 8: For Naomi's chiseled-cheek look, Grayson recommends blending two shades of powder blush. A nudish neutral with a dusty pink blended over it will work well. Apply this to the cheekbones with a wide cheek-contour brush and blend back toward the ears.
Step 9: With a pointed lip liner brush, apply a sheer, very pale nude pink gloss to the lips.
