She's 21 and she's been in dozens of films, but Scarlett Johansson seems unscathed by the biting Hollywood glamour factory. While she has confessed to already using anti-aging skin products, she promises she'll never be rail thin and has made her own fashion choices on the red carpet, for better or worse. We love her acting, and her claim that, "Whatever you see on my face in a movie is the way I feel. I'm not lying to you." What do we see on Scarlett Johansson's face? An impish, pouty-lipped, fun-loving innocence coupled with seriously killer, smoldering eyes. Makeup artist Deborah Grayson tells us how to get her look.
Step 1: Start by cleansing your face with a grainy cleanser or one of those at-home microdermabrasion kits, which will roll off dead skin and any flaky pieces, leaving a "smooth canvas" on which to apply your makeup.
Step 2: Apply a lightweight moisturizing lotion to the entire face, neck and shoulders. Make sure it's lotion, not cream, recommends Grayson, because the consistency of lotion is much lighter and easier to blend; it's also less likely to stain if you're applying it to areas that come into contact with clothing, such as décolleté and shoulders.
Step 3: With an oval-shaped fluff brush, apply a golden-yellow shimmer powder eye shadow to the entire eyelid. Just one swipe should be sufficient, because you only want a light covering.
Step 4: Next, dip the same fluff brush you used for the golden shadow into a coffee-brown shimmer powder shadow. Apply it directly over the golden-yellow, but only to the outer third of the eyelid '- not the entire lid. You can use your eye as a marking point for placement, says Grayson, placing the coffee-colored shimmer on your eyelid just above your pupil and blending outward.
Step 5: The next step is the trickiest, as you're going to line the entire inner circumference of the upper and lower eye rims. Use a clean, sharpened espresso-brown pencil and go slowly and carefully so you don't poke yourself!
Step 6: Using a cotton swab dipped into your coffee-brown powder, smudge a line directly under your lower eyes. Coupled with some natural "bleeding," you'll get that sexy smudge Scarlett's wearing.
Step 7: Mascara's next. Because this look is not about big lashes, Grayson recommends swiping your mascara wand with a tissue before you apply so there's just a smidgen on the brush '- or using a lash tint instead of mascara, which just gives color and no texture. Apply an extremely light layer to the upper lashes, then don't re-dip your wand, but just use the little bit that's left over to touch to the lower lashes.
Step 8: With a rounded blush brush, apply a matte rose-petal pink to the apples of the cheeks.
Step 9: Next, with a translucent-nude-colored loose powder and a velvet puff, blend over the foundation in the same direction you applied it. This will diffuse it, giving a look of muted color to your cheeks.
Step 10: Using the same nude-translucent powder and a full-headed powder brush, sweep powder lightly over your entire face. This will add a soft matte polish to the skin.
Step 11: Finish with no-color gloss.
Laura Mercier Eye Colour in Coffee Ground
This is a rich coffee brown with a hint of shimmer, perfect for replicating Scarlett's look. All of Mercier's shadows are formulated with French cashmere talc '- talk about a starlet's choice!
Laura Mercier Eye Colour in Star Shimmer
The yellow shimmer has a silky texture and adds the loveliest subtle glow.
Make Up For Ever Powder Blush in Antique Rose Matte Texture
We love Make Up For Ever for its highly pigmented, amazingly clear, true and "punchy" colors. I recommended the matte texture for this look because it's clean and innocent looking, but the same color also comes in semi-matte and iridescent for other moods you might be experiencing.
Sephora Slim Eye Pencil in Dark Brown
I like Sephora's pencils because they're firm yet not too hard to line the delicate rims of the inner eyes. And they're cheap!
LipFusion Lip Plump
LipFusion won the Good Housekeeping Seal for consumer favorites. This clear gloss shines while it plumps, so if you're longing for Scarlett's pout, give it a try.
Too Faced Fat Kiss in Fat Crystal
This gloss is made with Chinese cinnamon and Italian clove to "rouse" lips, and almond oil to keep them soft and moist. So go ahead and give someone a big fat kiss!
Shu Uemura Loose Powder in Colorless
Soft as a rose petal, this transparent, sheer powder gives a wonderful diffused look. I highly recommend it for setting makeup as well, and it comes with its own velvet puff.
