Rub linseed oil on all of your wooden handles to preserve them and use a wire brush to scrub the rust off of the metal parts. Take special care of your pruners, says Jenkins-Sutton. Clean anything that will be used to cut plants with turpentine and then use denatured alcohol to clean off the turpentine. Next, sharpen the blades and oil all the moving parts. When you’re actually using your pruners, keep a disinfecting spray with you that you can spray on them so you don’t transfer disease from plant to plant.
