Let the Friendship Go with the Relationship

It’s hard to be friends because ex-lovers don’t hold each other to the same standard as they do other friends. There is a gray area of uncharted territory due to unfinished business, sore subjects, and off-limits discussions. It’s difficult to tease or joke around, and certain words can be taken the wrong way. You might think you can do it without a problem, but the skin is thinner and the chance for upheaval, or even crisis, is greater. It’s not a “true” friendship and usually can’t be treated as one no matter how hard you try. There is always the unspoken “stuff ” and unresolved issues that stand in the way.
