Food Network star Giada De Laurentiis says she was mortified at rumors that she's been having an affair with John Mayer. The Giada at Home host has been married to fashion designer Todd Thompson for seven years, but was reportedly seen getting cozy with the womanizing musician in November. Star Magazine quoted sources saying that De Laurentiis, 40, and Mayer, 33, were flirting at a bar in New York City's Standard Hotel, and were even seen going into a suite together. But De Laurentiis says she was "shocked" by the story -- even more so because she didn't even see Mayer on her trip to New York.
"I haven't had any contact with John Mayer in three years," says the chef in the new issue of Redbook. "You know how you'll briefly get introduced to somebody? Maybe we chatted for five minutes, but I wouldn't consider that intimate. ... I think the only things that could possibly have tied us together is that we were at the same hotel that weekend in question -- which, by the way, my husband was with me there as well."
De Laurentiis says that the tabloid story ruined her getaway weekend in New York with husband and two-year-old daughter Jade.
"I was shocked. And not so much for me, but for my husband and family," she admits. "Todd was embarrassed that his family in Michigan would see it and think, 'What is going on over there in Hollywood?'"
Star more recently linked John Mayer to 21-year-old 90210 star Shenae Grimes, who also denied that she was dating him -- and also called the rumor "embarrassing." Hmm... are you noticing a pattern here, John Mayer?
The February issue of Redbook, in which Giada discusses her marriage and her post-pregnancy body, hits newsstands on January 18th.
