Girls in Science & Technology: Mission Statement

Today our girls are growing up in a society that relies on an ever-increasing variety of jobs in math, science and technology sectors. As educators, parents and mentors, we need to encourage girls to take math and science classes, find practical ways to build their confidence in these subject areas, and help them explore careers that make use of their individual talents. We believe that our girls have math and science talents that they ? and we -- may not even be aware that they have.

In order to open parents', educators' and girls' eyes to the opportunities afforded by studying math, science and technology, we have created an online clearinghouse of resources and activities to help make these subjects interesting and relevant to girls? lives. We have partnered with educational organizations, non-profit organizations and potential employers to help cover the subject from all angles.

Through this website, we aim to:

  • Demonstrate our commitment to educating girls, parents and educators about rewarding careers in math, science and technology.
  • Provide a context for exploring and understanding careers in math, science and technology.
  • Offer support and strategies for parents, teachers and advisors to help motivate, empower, and interest young girls to learn the skills they need to pursue careers in math, science and technology.
  • Form partnerships with educational organizations, businesses and corporate sponsors to provide current research and strategies to encourage and cultivate girls' interest in math, science and technology.
