Giving up naptime

I have a three-year-old daughter who takes a one hour nap every afternoon. She wakes up one or two times a night, calling for me, just to tuck her in or turn on her TV. What can be done to help her (and me) sleep through the night?

Question:

Is it possible to begin to cut out your daughter's nap? That could be helpful, possibly allowing her to sleep through the night.

Be warned! This may not be easy. Children tend to get very cranky during the transitional stage when they give up their nap. You'll need patience, love and understanding. If your daughter still needs you to come in at night, make sure you don't stay with her for long. Just tuck her back in and assure her that you are close by.
