Whether you're heading out for a date, an after-work gathering or a full-on booty shaker, times like these call for quick, fuss-free ways to give your regular hairstyle a little after-5 oomph. "At night it's all about glamour and being seen," says hairstylist Tippi Shorter, creator of these day-to-evening looks. Here, her tips on adding dazzle to your 'do.
Shift the Shape
Give your 'fro a different flow: Secure the front of your hair with two-strand twists by day, then release them in the evening to frame your face. For more drama, divide the hair in back into two sections. Within each section, make a two-strand twist, bring the twists together and pin them up at the back of your head. To go all out, sprinkle on a little shimmer.
Pump Up the Volume
Boost your sleek bob for evening: Rub a dab of light pomade in the palms of your hands and apply it to your hair. Lift small random sections around the crown and hairline, rolling ends between your fingers to create spiky tendrils.
For curly hair, a neat ponytail for daytime becomes a looser, sexier look for night. Apply a curl defining product throughout hair, then smooth back the sides and pin them up and behind the ears with bobby pins. Use a wide-tooth comb to gently lift the front and crown for added volume. Finger-comb the rest.
