The Emmy nominations, which were announced on Thursday, were music to the ears of the Glee cast, as the FOX breakout show led the pack with 19 nominations!
"I was aroused from a deep sleep!" Jane Lynch, who got a nod for best supporting actress in a comedy told People.com. "It's always a surprise and it's always exciting."
Lynch's costar -- and on-screen nemesis -- Matthew Morrison said he attempted to calm his nerves on nomination morning by going for a 7-mile run "to clear my thoughts," before the big announcement. Then he got word of his nod for best actor in a comedy.
"You try to not put too much importance on something like this and I want to say it doesn't matter to me," Morrison said, "But I can't seem to wipe this smile off my face right now!"
The actor says that the news of Glee's praise traveled like wildfire through the cell phones of his castmates, resulting in a "text message chain [that] is going crazy!"
"I'm so happy for Chris Colfer," he says about his costar who was nominated for his role as Kurt Hummel on the show. "I texted Jane and I texted Lea (Michele) and I texted the hair and makeup department! We have all been in the loop."
Colfer, 20, a first-time nominee, says he was shocked by the nod. "I knew there was the possibility but I don’t think I could have expected this." The actor says he immediately called his parents, his teachers, "the lunch ladies from my high school and pretty much anyone!"
And Glee mastermind Ryan Murphy is just beaming with pride over his cast's achievements. "I love all of them. I feel like I'm a dad and my kids just got into Harvard," he said.
But is all this Emmy praise about to go to the heads of the multi-talented performers on the show that's also up for best comedy? Absolutely, jokes Colfer and Lynch!
"What's endangered? I'd really love a panda [in my trailer]. Anything! I plan on making horrible demands!" quips Colfer.
"I'm going to be kind of a nightmare from now on," added Lynch. "I'll come to set two or three hours late, have 17 or 18 more custom-made track suits. One in gold lamé – 14-karat gold. Maybe I can go that far!"
The 62nd Annual Emmy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Fallon, will air live on NBC on Sunday, Aug. 20, at 8 p.m. ET.
