Lea Michele may be a plaid-wearing geek on Glee, but this awards season, she's become a bona fide red carpet star -- a constant presence on the year's "Best Dressed" lists, from her stunning emerald gown at the SAG awards to her flirty black number at the Grammys.
In addition to the chic wardrobe, Michele is showing off something else: a newly svelte figure. So, how did she do it?
"I'm a vegan," the onetime Broadway singer told OK! magazine. "It makes me feel really good and bright." Michele says she tried lots of different slim-down strategies, but giving up meat and dairy gave her the energy boost she needs to perform: "You need a lot of energy to play spunky Rachel Berry... so far, this is working."
Vegan eating seems to be gaining popularity as a weight-loss strategy, perhaps in part due to the sassy diet bestseller Skinny Bitch. Other notable celeb reportedly committed to vegan eating include Ellen Degeneres and Portia de Rossi (who announced in 2009 they were going vegan in order to adopt a more "cruelty-free" lifestyle), Spider-Man's Tobey Maguire, Bones' Emily Deschanel, singer Alanis Morissette, Brothers' Natalie Portman (who recently switched from vegetarianism to veganism) and Zombieland's Woody Harrelson.
