Designer Anna Sui honored abstract expressionist Louise Nevelson with her recent makeup collection, replete with trademark headscarf, from which this luxuriously bohemian makeup look was born. It is defined by flushed cheeks, glossy cherry-pink lips and seriously feminine eyes. (A set of false lashes was used to give that intense lash line.) There is just a touch of definition to the arch of the brows and we love it because it's intelligent, passionate and a touch flamboyant '- like Nevelson herself. Here, makeup artist Deborah Grayson describes how to get the look.
Step 1: Start with a clean, lightly moisturized face. Allow moisturizer to absorb into the skin for a few minutes, then, gently blot any excess with a tissue so skin maintains a faintly moist appearance.
Step 2: Next, you're going to apply false lashes, but trim them with an eyebrow scissor first so that they'll only lie about three-quarters of the way across lids '- not all the way. You can use the inner left spheres of your irises as benchmarks for placement. After you adhere the false lashes at the lash line, wait about five minutes for lashes to set.
Step 3: With a deep, chocolate-brown eyeliner pencil, very carefully (so as not to dislodge the false lashes) draw a line directly along the lash line where the false lashes were applied.
Step 4: Next, using a pointed liner brush, blend the chocolate-brown eyeliner outward along the lash line, creating a smooth, elongated ribbon effect.
Step 5: Using a cognac or suede-brown eye shadow powder with a "smudger" brush, dot along the lower lashline so you achieve only the slightest touch of color.
Step 6: Using an almond-shaped blending brush, apply a caramel-brown shadow to the creases of the eyes and smudge horizontally, to give a diffused, hazy definition.
Step 7: Next, brush eyebrows, but not too carefully! This look is a little "rough," honoring the boho style.
Step 8: Use a taupe pencil to enhance the eyebrow arches.
Step 9: Clean up any debris that may have fallen under the eye area with a cotton ball and eye makeup remover or towelettes.
Step 10: Apply a sheer, medium-coverage liquid foundation to the entire face, paying special attention to any dark or ruddy areas such as under eyes and at the sides of the nose. Blend outward with fingertips.
Step 11: Pat a small amount of loose, neutral-toned translucent powder onto a makeup puff (velvet puffs are the best) and, with light pressing motions, tap puff against skin to set foundation.
Step 12: With a fan-shaped or round-headed blush brush, apply a rich, cognac-toned powder blush to the apples of the cheeks, than diffuse outward and over cheekbones for a total flush of color.
Step 13: Using a lip brush, paint lips a ripe, cherry red. Finish with a shiny clear gloss on top.
