While Natalie Portman racks up critical acclaim (hello, Oscar?) for her performance as a ballerina going batty in Black Swan, the fashion darlings behind Rodarte, sisters Laura and Kate Mulleavy, have been applauded for the flick's innovative costume design.
Here's how to get the look -- even if you don't know your pirouettes from your grand plies:
- I'm not suggesting you twirl around town in a tutu. I mean, this ain't 1998. And you're not Carrie Bradshaw. Instead get a little flirty with BCBG Max Azria's "Luxe" Feather Tiered Skirt. The piece features tiers of chiffon ruffles with wispy black feathers for a subtle tribute to the ballerina trend ($198 at Bloomingdale's).
- Tread lightly with Jessica Simpson's Leve ballet flats. This footwear resembles the classic studio staple with suede cap toe, dainty bow and pleated detail ($59.95 at Zappos). Pair the shoes with a set of Long Leg Warmers from American Apparel. Wear them over your knee or slouchy, '80s style ($16 at American Apparel).
- The Feather & Petals Headband from Forever 21 lets you add a touch of plumage to your 'do -- without mimicking Cher ($8.80 at Forever 21).
- For those that are a little more daring, throw on the Feather Shoulder Crop Jacket from Top Shop for an evening at the bar, not barre. The short black blazer includes feathery trim at the shoulders, a great alternative to the season's ubiquitous faux fur ($125 at Topshop).
