They say everyone's Irish on St. Patrick's Day. So relax the Irish way tonight -- no, not that Irish way -- with an evening of Celtic songs and stories shared over a comfort-food feast from the Emerald Isle.
What you'll need:
- A book of Irish legends, such as Irish Legends for Children or The O'Brien Book of Irish Fairy Tales and Legends
- A relaxing Celtic music CD, such as Celtic Odyssey
- A lively Celtic music CD, such as The Best of the Chieftains
- Healthy, fun menu ideas (check out these festive and traditional suggestions
What you'll do:
First of all, be sure to have everyone wear some green! Choose one or two stories to read to the kids and mark them in your book. Then set the tone (literally) before dinner by playing the relaxing CD as you set the table and prepare dinner. Read one story over dinner or dessert, then move into a bit of up-tempo celebration: Put on Chieftains or another lively CD and let everyone dance -- as an added bonus, it's been our experience that four or five rousing dances with the under-eight set helps get them completely exhausted and ready for bed. Get your wee lasses and lads into their PJs, and finish off the evening with an Irish bedtime story.
