The Commercial Your Daughter Needs to See Right This Very Minute

We want a world where girls have more options than just the pink aisle, too

They might be trying to hawk toys but GoldieBlox, makers of products for budding engineers, have us buying everything they’re selling with this brilliant, stereotype-busting commercial.

According to Upworthy, less than 3 in 10 graduates in STEM disciplines are female, and only about 1 in 10 actual engineers are women. After all, as Barbie said, math is hard! But this commercial aims to change all that with its depiction of a girl-created Rube Goldberg contraption dialed up to 11, all set to a subversive rewrite of the Beastie Boys “Girls.”

Another ad from GoldieBlox, which explains the philosophy behind its products, is a finalist in a competition to win a free ad spot in the Super Bowl. It’s gotten our vote -- how about yours?
