Little Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Leah and Joel are growing up, Gosselin fans! The famous sextuplets are turning 6 years old on Monday -- but the joy of that milestone is tinged with sadness, as this is the first birthday they'll be celebrating since their parents' divorce. Jon Gosselin and Kate Gosselin will reportedly be spending the day apart, but each is preparing for their youngest kids' birthday in their own way.
For Kate, that means reminiscing about the day they were born in her TLC blog. The proud mama lists six 'miracles' surrounding their birth -- like the statistics-defying facts that her kids were all born healthy, and that she didn't have complications from her C-section. "I didn't yet know on the day they were born who was who and how they'd add to our family," Kate writes. "How did I end up with these exact kids? It always amazes me how unique and special they each are alone. But when they are all together, they're a perfectly blended garden of wild flowers!"
While Kate was blogging, her ex-husband was spotted stopping by Toys'R'Us for several bags of gifts. "I want to see them on their birthday, but I don't know," Jon told paparazzi in the parking lot. "I'm hoping that Kate lets me see them on their birthday." (Is that comment manipulative? Or just plain true? Kind of breaks our hearts, no matter why he said it.)
Even if the kids have to wait a few days to see their daddy, their birthday is bound to be less awkward than last year's made-for-TV extravaganza shot for TLC. By the time the sextuplets reached their fifth birthday, news of Jon and Kate's marital woes had spread to the tabloids, but the two hadn't officially announced their separation. To keep up the illusion, both parents showed up to usher the kids through a bouncy castle-jumping and pinata-smashing picnic near the family's home -- all while not speaking to one another and looking thoroughly miserable. To top it off, they were surrounded by TLC cameras (hoping to capture the happy family) and lurking tabloid photographers (hoping to capture the couple fighting). Now that Kate's presumably planning a party solo, we hope she'll keep things more low-key. We know she likes to go all-out, but the sextuplets' fourth birthday party -- where the most ambitious thing they did was decorate cupcakes -- seemed like perhaps it was the most fun for everyone involved.
