Looks like Taylor Momsen is going to have more time to devote to her rock band, The Pretty Reckless. TV Line reports that she and Jessica Szohr have been dropped from the cast of the CW's Gossip Girl.
A source close to the show confirms that the two actresses will not be series regulars when Gossip Girl returns for its fifth season this fall. Both Momsen and Szohr have been invited back as guest stars, however, so chances are they'll pop up again at some point to raise a little Upper East Side hell.
The 17-year-old Momsen, who plays bad girl Jenny Humphrey on the show, has recently been earning a "pretty reckless" rep of her own. In January, Madonna and her daughter Lourdes dropped Momsen as the face of their Material Girl clothing line. (Kelly Osbourne replaced her.) And back in November, rumor had it she was suspended from working on the Gossip Girl set because of bad behavior.
Meanwhile, Szohr's character, Vanessa, hasn't exactly been a fan favorite this season -- probably because she's frequently been pitted against Serena (Blake Lively). But Szohr has several film projects lined up, including the teen flick Owned and the Sarah Jessica Parker vehicle I Don't Know How She Does It.
Both characters should be fairly easy to write off the show: Momsen's Jenny has been M.I.A. most of this season at boarding school (she only appeared in four episodes)
The rest of the Gossip Girl cast is set to return, however. And Kaylee DeFer -- who recently arrived on the Upper East Side for a recurring role as Serena's cousin Charlie Rhodes -- has been promoted to a series regular. Let's hope she doesn't have an affinity for breast-flashing.
