TV Recap: Gossip Girl

‘Tis the season for SATs and everyone has their own methods for passing. Some study, some pay off stand-ins, some don’t worry. Chuck has done some research for Serena on Georgina. According to him, she’s far away—and that’s a little disappointing since Georgina apparently brought out the devil in Serena. Clearly, he at least knows a little about her past. Just when Serena thinks she has nothing to worry about, Georgina shows up as “the ghost of parties past.”

Blair is still playing hardball with little J to win back the girls. She is hosting a spa/study session that night. The girls pick her. That’s all right; J’s new plan is to find a king to complement her when she takes over as queen. So far all she’s spotted is a dog-walker.

Nate tries to help a frantic Dan by bringing his books. He’s already taken the test. Vanessa claims she can handle the tutoring. She’s aced a ton of practice exams (just to help Dan study.) She finds a handwritten note in one of the books and takes a look.

Serena agrees to go out for a drink with Georgina, but clearly that won’t happen. Before long they’re speaking in accents and enticing suitors. G’s phone rings, Serena answers, and it’s a drug dealer. She calls Chuck for help. She’s drunk and things have gone too far. Chuck calls Dan to cover for her, but he doesn’t buy it. Later, Dan tells Chuck to back off, and after being put through the ringer, Serena should really listen to Chuck when he says to tell Dan the truth.

Blair is hardly around this episode. She’s preoccupied with Nelly Yuki. (Why must she refer to her by her first AND last name EVERY time… anyone?) Blair recruits “the girls” to take part in her plan to distract the brain from test day. Little Nelly sure is a case. They try to throw her off her game by getting her ex-boyfriend Todd to distract her the night before the test… I say: one night can’t make a person fail, so it seems silly to me—even if she acts like a train wreck

Jenny is now interested in the dog walker, who seems too much like a stocky farm boy to me. Despite being grounded, she is greeted by him and a ton of hotdogs. Rufus is cool with it. Whatever.

Vanessa and Nate meet up for Greek food. She confesses that the paper she read was an essay on his family and she didn’t mean to judge him. Sparks fly, and by the end he wants to kiss her… and does. I like them as a couple, but what about her feelings for Dan? Anyone, anyone?  The next day Nate picks her up and ends up taking her to the SAT test. It’s about time she should actually take it. Good for him for encouraging her.

Georgina calls Serena and persuades her to hang out for an hour. The SATs are in the morning... this just has disaster written all over it. Serena tells G about Dan and then leaves to call him. G slips something in her drink, and next thing Serena knows it’s morning and she has no memory. Why does Georgina have it in for her? G tries to tell her that she did all kinds of bad things, but the big priority is the SAT test. Who does she call for help: Chuck.

Dan tries to call Serena for the umpteenth time before the test… just as some curly redhead shows up to check in as Serena. He goes to confront her and is nice, but Serena is cold and keeps him at a distance… unlike Chuck, which really bothers Dan.

Serena goes over to tell G to say out of her life. She mentions something about some night where they both were… witness to something? It’s unclear. Serena stops G and says she won’t talk about it. She tells her to keep quiet: If she goes down, Georgina goes down. SO… what happened??

Later, Georgina runs into Dan in the park and introduces herself as Sarah… there’s a moment there… and clearly no good can come of this.

Next week:

Serena’s secret comes out and someone comes out of the closet!
