Labor Day is a distant memory, which means it's time to quit wearing white (yeah right) and shift our collective focus from iced coffee and Corona with lime to pumpkin lattes and pumpkin beer.
Right now you're either rolling your eyes or nodding your head in an emphatic yes. That's because -- just in time for fall and Halloween -- pumpkin beer has fans and haters all riled up this week.
The opening salvo in the debate, notes BuzzFeed, started with the magazine and website Beer Advocate, which retweeted a disparaging post by a beer exec named John Bryan: " Pumpkin beer is the modern day equivalent of the mullet. Everybody that brewed one will be ashamed of it in a decade." (Ooh, snap!)
And hoo-boy, some people did not like that. One response said, "The fact that Beer Advocate is egging on an argument over pumpkin beer is ridiculous. It's fall. It tastes good. And it's beer. #enoughsaid." Many others use language too colorful to reprint here in their support of our freedom to drink pumpkin beer without shame or bullying.
Some, of course, jumped in with choice words to echo the pumpkin-beer-is-horrible sentiment.
You might be among those who hate it, but turns out pumpkin beer is a big seller -- taken as a part of the entire category of craft beer -- as BuzzFeed notes. It's a $325-plus million business, and growing. And Cigar City Brewing's Good Gourd Imperial Pumpkin Ale is the top-rated variety, according to Beer Advocate.
So let's hear from you on this momentous debate: Do you love or hate pumpkin beer?
