Green Day Headed for Broadway!

Punk superband Green Day is taking a shot at the Great White Way! After a successful 2009 run at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre in California (where it reportedly became that venue's top-grossing production in history), the new musical American Idiot is officially headed for Broadway in 2010.

The production is directed by Tony winner Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening), who teamed up with the band's frontman, Billie Joe Armstrong, on the book. The story, about an antihero kid from the suburbs who relocates to the big city, is scored with hits originally heard on Green Day's critically acclaimed 2004 album, American Idiot -- including "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," "Wake Me Up When September Ends," and "Jesus of Suburbia." No Green Day musicians will appear onstage in the production.

The Broadway run of American Idiot begins previews for the public on March 24 at the St. James Theater in New York City, with an official opening night slated for April 20.
