Shop Locally

"When it comes to food, to the extent that I can, I buy local and seasonal products, generally from a locally owned produce market, grocer or farmers' market. I live in Northern California, so I realize that I am at a big advantage in this regard, but this time of year I would bet that all parts of the country have some great local produce options. And, since the cost of fuel has started to rise, I have noticed that the local, in-season produce I buy from the produce market is actually CHEAPER than equivalent items at the chain stores. Granted, I have to make an extra stop, but the fruits and vegetables I get by doing so are tastier, healthier and used less fuel to get to my table. That means a lot to me." —iVillager jamie-rk
