People die on Grey's Anatomy all the time. (It's set in a hospital, after all.) Not even the main characters always make it out alive. (R.I.P., Drs. O'Malley, Adamson and Percy.) But it's still shocking when a character you've come to know is suddenly yanked into oblivion. That's about to happen on Thursday's finale, which airs at 9 p.m. ET on ABC. Watch the first seven minutes of the episode here:
As you can see, Seattle Grace's top surgeons have been in a plane crash on the way to Boise, Idaho, and one of them will ostensibly pass away by episode's end. Interestingly, all six -- Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), Derek (Patrick Dempsey), Cristina (Sandra Oh), Mark (Eric Dane), Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) and Lexie (Chyler Leigh) -- are still alive in the promo clip. So which surgeon will it be?
Truth is, the threatened docs can be narrowed to three. Pompeo, Dempsey and Oh have all reportedly signed contracts for two more years. So fans will have to say goodbye to Lexie, Mark or Arizona.
Though he's staggering around a bit, Mark hardly seems injured. That means it's either Arizona (who, in her state of shock, finds herself giggling over the grotesque sight of her exposed thigh bone) or Lexie (who's stuck under the plane and, according to Mark, "she's hypercarbic and short of breath.")
Of those two, Lexie seems more likely to be the goner. Sure, it would be a tragic end to her bittersweet, on-again-off-again romance with Mark. And who doesn't love Little Grey? But as Grey's characters go, Arizona is arguably even more popular.
Is it too much to ask that the show just kill off the no-name pilot? Probably.
