Another day, another Idol contestant basks in the judges' good favor.
Remember when everyone thought that this season of American Idol was Kree Harrison's to lose? And then the glowing praise shifted in Candice Glover's direction? And then, as of last week, Amber Holcombe seemed destined to win?
Call us skeptical, but when it comes to who's on top, the judges obviously have a lot of influence over voters. And boy, have Keith Urban, Nicki Minaj, Randy Jackson and Mariah Carey see-sawed from week to week. No doubt, that's exactly what the producers want them to do. How do you keep the show interesting (well, besides installing a crazy-wigged, loose-lipped fruitcake on the judging panel)? Keep viewers guessing about who might win!
Today's news from FOX411 -- that Candice is receiving "personality training" to boost her chances at winning -- is a bit of a curveball. Candice as the golden girl? That was so two weeks ago. At the most recent performance show, it was Amber's turn to bring the judges to their feet, while Minaj called Candice "old-fashioned."
Last week, several critics acknowledged Amber's sudden rise to prominence. TV Line's Michael Slezak couldn't understand why the judges criticized Candice and Kree, "while Amber got a free pass for missing notes…and for choosing a dated Celine Dion cover." And TV Guide's Liz Raftery asked: "Have the American Idol Judges Already Decided This Year's Winner?"
Actually, a source told Hollywoodlife.com that they've already chosen the two finalists.
Well, that would explain Candice's personality training. The FOX411 report also suggests that this extra coaching came "at the urging of Mariah Carey…Mariah is really rooting for her." Meanwhile, Mariah's nemesis, Nicki, has already stated that Amber is her "favorite girl in this competition."
Well, well, well. If the producers get their way, the Season of the Nicki-Mariah Feud will come down to a final diva showdown. Who will win, Nicki or Mariah…or, uh, Amber or Candice? We'll have to tune in to find out. Very sneaky, Idol producers.
