You have to admit, there's no other celebrity quite like Gwyneth Paltrow. The actress and health fanatic appeared on today's Rachael Ray Show to talk about her new film, Country Strong, in which she plays a country singer whose struggle with alcohol nearly kills her career. Paltrow, 38, told Rachael Ray that getting in character was easy: she just got "really drunk all the time." No, really!
"It's not very professional," said the mother of two. "There's a Bloody Mary at 10 a.m. and keep it going all day! You know, it was actually very liberating and amazing to play somebody who just didn't think about consequences because I'm so responsible with my life and too worried about everything and my kids... In a way it was kinda fun, you know?"
Aww, we love it when Gwyneth loosens up a little bit like this (or like her lighthearted guest role on Glee). But then, she's still Gwyneth Paltrow -- which is why she followed all that talk of drinking booze and eating fried chicken with talk of fitness and super-strict diet cleanses. Her latest recommendation, as seen in her GOOP newsletter, is a 21-day mostly-liquid "detox program." If you want to follow the program, you can order the shakes and supplements for a mere $425, and accompany them with simple homecooked meals like chestnut bisque and fish tacos with persimmon salsa.
And this is why we find Gwyneth so funny -- because for all her talk "going country," she's still the queen of the unattainable lifestyle. Who has $500 to spend on powdered drinks? Who has time to make homemade chips and salsa out of brown rice and persimmons? For the Oscar winner who grew up as Hollywood royalty, this is all totally normal. She doesn't seem to realize that she lives in a bubble. Of course, it's a very nice bubble -- one that we certainly wouldn't mind visiting, if we had the time and money!
Country Strong is in theaters this week.
