If Gwyneth Paltrow cares about public opinion, she's getting some seriously mixed signals. The 40-year-old actress was just named the most hated person in Hollywood in Star magazine's annual fan-voted poll, but she has also just been given the title of the world's most beautiful woman.
Yes, of all the beautiful people to deserve the title during the past year -- um, hello Jennifer Lawrence -- it was Paltrow who was given top honors in People's annual list. For what it's worth, Lawrence and another worthy, breakout actress, Django Unchained and Scandal star Kerry Washington, were among the 152 "fresh faces" People recognized. But it's a bit surprising that the woman behind GOOP was named top dog.
Despite your sentiments about Paltrow, it's hard to deny that she's doing what she thinks is best for the world from the bottom of her heart. All of her healthy living habits and extreme diet changes are meant to better those she comes in contact with, even if they've given her a bad rap. Plus, Paltrow is very obviously a beautiful woman. But the world's most beautiful woman? This year? It seems like a stretch.
Conveniently, Paltrow's biggest project this year, Iron Man 3, comes out in only one and a half weeks, on May 3. It doesn't take a conspiracy theorist to see the connection between that movie and this People story, even if Paltrow was named the magazine's most beautiful because the folks in charge of the poll truly believe it. Whatever the case, something doesn't quite fit in our minds, especially since it was a well-deserving and timely choice -- Beyonce-- who won in 2012.
Cynicism aside, our sincere "congratulations" goes out to Paltrow. It's hard to look as youthful as she does at age 40, something she credits to the Tracy Anderson Method, which she does five days a week. It's also quite the accomplishment that her second cookbook, It's All Good, debuted at No. 1 on the New York Times bestseller list. But one of Paltrow's proudest moments, she tells People, is raising her two children -- Apple, 8, and Moses, 7 -- with hubby Chris Martin to the best of her ability.
Of instilling good body image in her kids, Paltrow says, "having a father who adores you the way that he adores [Apple] is very good for your body image. The more we can love her and let her be who she is, the more confident she'll feel."
