It looks like Broadway audiences will just have to wait a little longer for Halle Berry. The Oscar-winning actress was scheduled to make her debut on The Great White Way this fall, but she dropped out of The Mountaintop due to ongoing "custody issues."
Berry and ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry have been fighting over custody of their 3-year-old daughter Nahla since December, when Aubrey filed for joint custody. In a statement to the New York Times, producers of the show said, "Ms. Berry would not be appearing in the role due to child-custody issues."
The actress, who is currently dating Olivier Martinez, was set to play opposite Samuel L. Jackson in Katori Hall's imagined account of the night before Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. Berry, 42, had the role of a maid in the Lorraine Hotel, where King was preparing for a demonstration before he was shot on the balcony outside his room.
This is the second time the fight for Nahla has interfered with Berry's work. Earlier this year, she was replaced by Katherine Heigl in the movie New Year's Eve, but snagged a different role in the film after a judge ruled the mom was allowed to travel to New York with her daughter to shoot her scenes.
We're hoping Berry and Aubry can come to some sort of agreement before Nahla gets any older. It would be such a shame for the little girl to get dragged into her parents' messy split.
