Many people were surprised by Halle Berry's pregnancy -- including the actress herself!
News broke on April 5 that the 46-year-old is expecting her first child with fiance Olivier Martinez. (The new baby will join Berry’s 5-year-old daughter Nahla, whose father is ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry.) The next day, Berry confirmed the reports and opened up about her emotional journey.
“I feel fantastic. This has been the biggest surprise of my life, to tell you the truth,” the Oscar winner confessed to CNN. “Thought I was kind of past the point where this could be a reality for me. So it’s been a big surprise and the most wonderful."
Berry also said that she plans to use her pregnancy to help educate women. She and designer Michael Kors launched their Watch Hunger Stop campaign in N.Y.C on April 6. Together, they designed two versions of Kors' Runway watch -- and for every watch sold, the World Food Programme will give away 100 meals to hungry children. Berry and Kors will be traveling with the charity to the areas where food will be sent.
"I hope we go while I’m pregnant, so I can talk about prenatal care," Berry told the Associated Press. "And I will have time off -- I’m not working right now. It’s so important to me, being a mom, that I can help educate women on how important it is that when you have a healthy child, it helps set them up for life."
