Halle Berry is leaving Hollywood behind. No, she's not retiring: the Oscar winner, 46, wants to move overseas to protect her four-year-old daughter Nahla from the onslaught of paparazzi they experience in L.A. In a cover story for InStyle, Berry admitted that she is "not sure where I am going to be living in the next few months."
"It's the appeal of privacy and a greater sense of safety for Nahla," the Oscar winner explained. "I don't want her to grow up around the tabloids. Because we are followed all the time, she is starting to feel like she is somehow special, and of course she is, but I want her to understand that she's special because of who she is, not because she was born into this celebrity blender."
The actress reportedly wants to move to France, the home country of her fiance Olivier Martinez. France also has laws to protect celebs from invasive paparazzi (though they're not foolproof; just ask Kate Middleton). There is, however, one obstacle standing between Berry and her expat status: Nahla's father Gabriel Aubry. Berry and her ex have been locked in a bitter custody battle for two years now, and it's gotten that much more heated since Berry requested full custody to take their daughter overseas.
"There is turbulence, but this too shall pass," she tells InStyle of her dispute with Aubry.
While Berry is trying to work out her daughter's future, she has also begun contemplating her next wedding. It doesn't bother her that this is her third trip down the aisle; says Berry, "I'm a hopeless romantic, and I won't stop till I get it right." She knows two things: that she wants the wedding to be small, and that Martinez is the right guy to marry.
"He's silly, a clown, and very much the life of the party, which is good for someone like me," she says. "Danny Downer ... been there, done that. Now I like Louie Lightfoot!"
