Need a mood boost? Want to make a fabulous first impression? Gretchen Rubin (@gretchenrubin), happiness expert and author of the new book, The Happiness Project, can help. She joined iVillage for an exclusive Twitter chat (hashtag #gethappy @iVillage). Check out her answers to your questions below!
@iVillage Why did you start the Happiness Project?
@gretchenrubin My reason for starting Happiness Project: To appreciate my ordinary life more and to expect more from myself.
@kolodsofun Do you think keeping a regimented schedule makes you happy or more anxious?
@gretchenrubin For me, a schedule helps me feel happier, also more productive, but people differ on whether routine boosts happiness, or not.
@gretchinrubin What should you focus on to get happy?
@gretchenrubin To boost happiness? Focus on family, friends, energy; learn something new, make something better, help someone.
@iVillage For someone who gets easily irritated with waiting around, what do you suggest to lift spirits?
@gretchenrubin Get irritated while waiting around? I try to observe surroundings like reporter or anthropologist. Focus on things that look interesting!
@susan88001 How much time and energy do you devote daily to work on being happy?
@gretchenrubin Hard to say. I think about it constantly during my usual routine. More about state of mind than actual time/energy.
@TreeCityKnitter Tomorrow is the National Day of Unplugging. Will you unplug and, if yes, what will you do?
@gretchenrubin I won’t unplug completely tomorrow, but each day I unplug for a bit of time: when doing original writing or when with my family.
@gretchinrubin What are the biggest changes you've made in YOUR life?
@gretchenrubin Biggest changes from my happiness project? More sleep, more play, more reading and blogging. Less nagging, less yelling.
