Anyone who's heard Taylor Swift's lyrics, knows she has a history of trashing her exes (though at least she keeps it anonymous). But her most recent love interest, One Direction's Harry Styles, has decided to take the high road and keep things cordial between him and his ex-girlfriend.
The two pop stars (who split in January) were forced to reunite at the Brit Awards in London on Feb. 20. It was expected that things would go poorly for the former couple after The Sun ran a story reporting that Swift and One Direction's rehearsal schedules had to be switched around so Styles and his ex wouldn't cross paths.
But when Swift took the stage to present the best British female award, Styles proved everyone wrong. When the camera cut to him, he was seen clapping for Swift -- albeit, a little awkwardly.
He took that good behavior with him to the Sony and Belvedere after-party where he brought his mom as his date. Us Weekly asked Styles what he thought of Swift's performance at the Brit Awards, and he simply responded, "Great! She always puts on a good show." (Someone very smart must have taught him that answer before they sent him out into the world post-breakup.)
That echoes the answer Styles reportedly gave the Mirror after Swift mocked him by using a British accent while performing "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" at the Grammys. "She's a great performer and she's always good on the stage," Styles is quoted as saying. "She's done it for a long time. She knows what she's doing on stage. It was just another good Taylor Swift performance. It was good."
Hopefully the irony of Swift performing "I Knew You Were Trouble" during the Brit Awards was not lost on Styles, though fortunately the camera didn't pan to him during that instance of Swift being on stage. At least he can look forward to more passive aggressive attacks against him on her next album -- and so can we!
