Alex O'Loughlin, star of CBS' popular Hawaii Five-0 reboot, is expected to miss the filming of at least one episode while he undergoes treatment for prescription pain meds.
The Australian actor, who plays Detective Steve McGarrett on the hit drama, will "receive supervised treatment for prescription pain medication due to a recent shoulder injury," his rep says.
The well-rated police procedural (Mondays at 10 p.m. on CBS) has already completed 19 episodes and is reportedly ahead of schedule for the current season. According to Entertainment Weekly, the show recently overtook the well-hyped new NBC musical drama Smash in the ratings for the last two weeks of February.
The series' production company announced its encouragement of O'Loughlin's prescription drug treatment.
"We respect and support Alex's decision," CBS TV Studios says in a statement. "Everyone at CBS Television Studios and Hawaii Five-0 wishes him well and we look forward to his return."
After a stint on various television shows, including the short-lived paranormal series Moonlight, and the love-interest role opposite Jennifer Lopez in The Back-up Plan, O'Loughlin, 35, finally landed a successful leading role on Hawaii 5-0, which is now in its second season.
