chime in nowEarthing is the theory that the surface of the earth contains a subtle, natural electrical energy that provide us numerous health benefits by walking barefoot, sitting or sleeping on the ground. The concept is creating a buzz as emerging research indicates this planetary energy does boost the body’s self-healing mechanisms by reducing inflammation and pain, improving sleep, and helping to defuse stress, explains Stephen Sinatra, M.D., a cardiologist and co-author of Earthing. “I believe that earthing is the most important health breakthrough that I have witnessed in my 35 years of practicing medicine,” says Dr. Sinatra.
“Word is spreading about the benefits of earthing, and I expect to see it become a widely recognized therapeutic and prevention tool globally in the alternative health field and in health spas,” he says. Sinatra points out that research indicates earthing can help reduce the chronic inflammation that can cause conditions like arthritis, heart disease and cancer. It’s a simple, effective and free way to combat common illnesses and pain problems, according to Sinatra.
Try some earthing yourself: Sinatra recommends going barefoot outside for 40 minutes a day (or for as long as you are able). To draw the Earth’s electrons, walk on conductive surfaces such as grass, sand, dirt or concrete, as well as in shallow areas of natural bodies of water. If going barefoot outside isn’t practical, a warm basement with a concrete floor is a great substitute. Sit there and read or relax, with your bare feet on the floor.
