These heart-healthy meal plans provide a healthy eating program that meets the U.S. dietary guidelines for Americans at five different daily caloric levels: 1,200, 1,400, 1,600, 1,800 and 2,000. The menus are packed with nutrient-rich foods: whole grains, lean meats, low-fat dairy and plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. They also meet nutritional criteria specific to people with cardiovascular disease or those hoping to prevent it. The recipes are low in saturated fat (7 to 10 percent of daily calories) and cholesterol (daily average is under 300 milligrams), contain no trans fats and follow recommended dietary guidelines for sodium (daily average is less than 2,300 milligrams). Each EatingWell recipe uses common, everyday ingredients and is simple to prepare. Most are entrees accompanied by complementary sides that nutritionally balance the meals. In addition to breakfast, lunch and dinner, each meal plan includes a morning and afternoon snack. This meal plan is based on a 2,000-calorie daily diet. Is this the right calorie level for you? At the end of the slide show, you’ll be able to bookmark a link to all of the recipes and print out the entire menu to post on your refrigerator. Let’s get started!
