The actress is currently "under a doctor's care" -- but contrary to rumors she's not in proper rehab, a source close to the situation tells People.
The 50-year-old actress, who has reportedly suffered from bouts of depression and anxiety for many years, has reportedly chosen to handle her substance abuse and other issues without the guidance of an in-treatment program.
The source adds that Locklear's family and close friends are trying to be supportive, even if they'd prefer she get more help.
"Her family and friends haven't given up hope, but they know that for her to get well, she has to want it for herself," the source says. "She's the only one who can do it."
Although earlier reports claimed Locklear was checking into a traditional rehab program, the source confirms that she has "decided for now to seek recovery without an in-patient program."
Locklear has had a difficult 2012 so far. Just one week after her hospitalization, she and her ex-fiance, Jack Wagner, had such a heated argument that the police had to intervene. With or without rehab, let's hope things turn around for Locklear soon.
