While we're all still on the fence about whether Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt's sudden split is for real or for the cameras, Montag's rep is confirming that her client and Pratt have separated.
"Heidi is going through a difficult time and hopes people respect her privacy," the rep tells Us Weekly, adding that no legal paperwork has been filed yet.
News of the split broke last week, when TMZ.com first reported that Montag was moving out and had enough of her husband's controlling ways.
"Heidi loves Spencer but she had lost contact with her friends and family," a friend said. "She started to realize what she was missing."
Reportedly, The Hills star is getting a place with her best friend, Jennifer Bunney, and a new TV show is in the works.
Bunney says the new series will focus on "huge turning points" in their lives. "Is [Heidi] going to be a single, independent woman or is she going to stay with Spencer?... We know fame is fleeting, fame is not going to support us for the rest of our lives. We need to make smart decisions right now."
So, is the Pratts' big marital shake-up just a ploy to get reality-TV fans to tune in for the "next chapter" in Heidi's life? Sounds pretty possible, but we'll have to just wait and see.
