So here we are, the first part of the Hell's Kitchen finale. I have to be honest, I am kind of surprised by the finalists. Who would have thought the last two would be the guy who made Chef Ramsay a hen in a pumpkin and the relatively inexperienced (only 3 years out of culinary school) Christina? But each chef actually managed to impress over the course of the season. Christina won a handful of challenges and Petrozza proved to to be very skillful at his stations.
Thankfully Chef Ramsay decided to keep the finale the same as the past seasons and had each finalist design their own restaurant from the menu to the decor. This is always a great way to end the season.
Right off the bat Petrozza has a tough time with his menu while Christina has a very good idea about what she wanted her restaurant to be. Petrozza thinks that flowers everywhere will be a great idea (blech!) while Christina wants a sleeker feel. She has a very strong feeling about how she wants everything to look, right down to the wait staff. It is very clear Christina knows what she wants and Petrozza is having a tough time.
Thirty-two hours before their big night, Ramsay tells the chefs he is going to fly them out to New York to check out one of his restaurants. As they board the private jet, the contractors get started building the chefs' dream kitchens.
In New York, Ramsay brings the two finalists right into the heart of Times Square and shows them their names on a billboard! How cool! After giving them both a special gift (a week in Dubai) he brings them over to London (his restaurant) and asks them to each make their signature dishes. And the judges to try these dishes? Ramsay's own executive chefs from his restaurants around the world. Now we are in the big leagues.
After a tie in votes (surprise, surprise), the final vote went to one of the chef's future bosses: the executive chef of the soon-to-be London, West L.A. He chose Petrozza's filet mignon. Finally Petrozza gets a win. Then for some reason Whoopie Goldberg came out! I guess just to say hi? That was weird.
Back in L.A. the chefs checked out their restaurants. Petrozza loved his flower wallpaper and maroon window treatments, while Christina absolutely hated her stripped wall paper (even though that's exactly what she picked).
The next day Chef Ramsay brought in the most recent contestants kicked off to be chosen by the finalists to make up their kitchen teams. Because Petrozza won, he got to pick first. He chose Bobby to be on his team while Christina obviously picked Corey. Next Petrozza chose Ben while Christina picked Louross to add a little energy to her team.
The last two left - Matt and Jen. Who is Petrozza going to pick? Jen would be a better chef and Matt is a little sketchy in the kitchen. But Jen might purposefully sabotage Christina if she is on her team. Tune in next week to see who Petrozza picks and who takes the Hell's Kitchen crown!
Until next time, Happy Eating!
